Ghost's initial MW2 review
« on: November 11, 2009, 04:29:52 AM »
GRRRRRRR

the game is pretty cool......when you finally get to play it.

After giving this game a good 4 hours of menu time and 3 hours of play time, i feel i can give an adequate initial review.

The game is good.  Not great or amazing or ground breaking.  Just a polished cod4 with new maps.  The animations and overall gameplay are great.  Seems to run great on everyone's pc.  The problem is that it is a HUGE pain in the ass to get together to play.

You can create private servers, but you don't get any XP.  No XP means our perks and weapons arent unlocked.  Maybe once we all get leveled up we can just do private servers.  Until then, expect a lot of trouble trying to get a group up to play.  And if you got left out or came in late, either you arent playing, or the whole group has to disconnect, re-invite everyone, then TRY to reconnect.  I say TRY because someone may get disconnected when the game tries to load up.  Once you are in game, for the most part it runs fine, but we definately experienced a lot of connectivity issues.  Sometimes 5-40 second host migration delays.  Sometimes major lag then disconnects.  Sometimes attempted host migrations then disconnects.  Basically, the whole online connectivity sucks donkey balls.  It will definitely be a HUGE effort to play together.

With all that being said, will I be playing?  The answer is yes.  Why?  Because of a few reasons:

*its new and shiny
*the SP will be good
*The Co-Op will be good
*The Spec-Op will be good
*It is fun to play as a clan together
*It is something fun to play while I wait on the new Battlefield.

Here is my fail attempt at an IGN review rating based on MP only

7.0 - Presentation - For $60 I expect to at least get some more artwork/instruction manual.
8.0 - Graphics - They look good and the game runs great, but they are not up to COD5 or Crysis standards.
8.0 - Sound - They did better on the sound, but the guns still are a bit weak.  So far, i haven't heard any of the craptastic effects that COD4 had.  A big improvement, but not up to COD5 standards.
9.0 - Gameplay - Definitely good.  Identical to COD4 minus leaning.
1.0 - Multiplayer experience - Absolutely as horrible and terrible that we thought it would be.  Actually, it is worse.  This will certainly kill or stagnate clans.  It will also be the eventual demise of this game.  It will not have the longevity that COD4 had.  The game is fun when you get in, but the actual overall experience of trying to play is frustrating.
5.5 - Lasting Appeal - Buy this game for some short lived fun.  I can guarantee I will play this until Battlefield comes out, but after that it will collect cobwebs.

Overall score - 6.5 - (not an average) - The online experience really drug this great game down.

edit:  The next morning.  I must say that unlike COD4, or MOHAA, or BF2, or WoW, I do not have a major urge to hurry up and play the game.  Why?  Becuase I am annoyed at the hassle I know it will take to actually get into a server with you guys.  On the other hand, I had an AWESOME time last night playing with Shar, Vag, Beer, and Seagul till late.  We played a game type that is cross between S&D and TDM.  It was super fun.  We worked well as a team.

Also, Headquarters was a lot of fun.  I cant wait until everyone gets ranked high enough so that we can play the Hardcore modes.  (For those that dont know, the GAMETYPEs that you get to play are based on if you are ranked high enough to play..  i.e.  If you are level 14 the S&D gametype opens up for you to be able to play.)

Ill see you bitches on tonight till late again.  Im bringing my alcohol hat tonight so it will numb the menu pain.

Everyone has to disconnect to let someone join?  They are going to fix that within a patch or two I'd imagine.  That doesn't sound very good.  I wonder how many clans are pissed right now.. haha.  Looks pretty good, it got a 9.75 elsewhere I think.

That's not technically true, you can join if there is a spot in a game open, but the game often "matches" another person in quite quickly which means the person loses their spot. Then you have to get into another party and do it all again.

It was fairly stable tonight when we played, apart from this weird thing where it lagged at the start of each round. The menus are the worst part of the whole game, they make little sense.

When you say menus, do you mean the area in which we tried to join a MP game?  I agree.  The overall menus for everything else are fine as they are identical to COD4.

I got to play for a couple of hours and loved the game, both SP and MP. I think when I was obliterating the other team in TDM I was the host, which would explain that. Level 8 and counting, can't wait to get back to my beloved S&M, I mean S&D.

Yeah that's what I mean. They really fucked up in that, but once you get in a game it's fun. Also Ghost I played some more of that demolition game type tonight, holy fucking shit that is fun.

Sounds shitty.  Maybe they will listen to the fans and at least make the Multiplayer part better.  I guess they don't really care if people buy it and play it for 2 months, compared to playing it for 2 years.  Unless they hope to sell map packs.

The Ford Taurus was the best selling car in America for like 5 years in a row or something crazy.  It was still a piece of shit even though everyone bought it.

I am happy I did not go out buy it right away, I am still looking around to see if I can grab some info or a demo to try the game out on.

If I can get an official decision I will most likely be on and around very soon!!!!!

When I went to pick this up there were a bunch of 8 year olds with their mothers buying the NVGs for $200. Bahaha.
