Nope. Everything is still unlockable in time, just paying a bit of money for weapons will speed up the process. But most of the original or easy to unlock weapons (say through achievements) are better than the ones you either buy or randomly unlock. They've had the MannCo store for awhile now even when you had to buy TF2 as well, but I think it has reached the point where Valve is getting enough money through the in game store to justify making the game free for all.

Saturn it was 'F2P' once you had bought the game. Now the game is FREE for EVERYONE. You can't purchase it anymore, it just comes free with your steam account.
