What does this mean?
« on: April 02, 2011, 04:36:44 AM »
I don't have any "problems" per say, but I saw some of you discuss your 3DMARK06 results earlier. I decided to download it and run it and this is what I came up with:

11380 3DMarks

SM2.0 Score: 4398
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 5289
CPU Score: 3394

I'm too lazy to figure out the easiest way to show my setup, so you'll have to remind me. LoL

That means you probably have a Dell and it's probably time to upgrade. Also, everyone should be usin pcmark11 or pcmark vantage. 3dmark06 is 5 years old.

Even though you clearly have a shitty CPU and gpu, your CPU is worse.

Well, I do have a Dell XPS 420.

My CPU is an Intel Quadcore Duo 2.3Ghz 8MB Cache.
My video card is a GT250 1gb RAM
I have 6 GB of DDR RAM

I'm not sure I would agree that my CPU is shit or even that my GPU is shit. I may just need to do some OCing, which I don't know how to do.

Yes, that's all. I can't dump shit-tons of money into my PC. I have a family to support. I don't think it's all that bad though. I can play all the major games with great visuals and great performance.

I downloaded 3DMark Vantage.

Overclocking your CPU would actually help a lot. The CPU is decent but you need to get it up to 3ghz which would be easy to do if you didn't have a Dell. Dell locks their mobos so you can't overclock. Your best bet would be to get a new mobo and gpu. Oc your CPU. Otherwise, because you got a Dell, you are pretty much fucked. You can upgrade your gpu and see some pretty big performance increases, but at the end of the day, games need speedy processors....at or over 3ghz. You are bottlenecked. Your ramm is fine.

I resent that remark. I have a PC and a MacBook Pro. I will never buy another Windows laptop again. My Mac blows away every Windows-based laptop I've seen. Macs have specific uses and PCs have specific purposes.  :great:

I concur on the MacBook, Its awesome, fast, doesnt feel like any windows pc/laptop where u load it up with apps and slows down. I would have never even thought on buying one until recently.  I swapped out a hd for my buddy's macbook and reloaded the o/s and other shit he had on it and its nice.

Its on my list, getting Iphone next week, then Ipad2 and finally a macbook <3
I'll be an Apple whore lol

Why would you buy an Iphone, an ipad AND a MacBook? An iphone and a macbook I can understand, as phones are different to laptops. But an ipad is just an iphone meets laptop, which you will have if you buy both of those.
Silly Op-X.

I'm still hesitant about getting an iPad since it's very much like an oversized iPod Touch. I understand it has additional capabilities, but I'm just 'eh' about it. I used to have an iPhone and will have one again one day. After getting married, buying a house and planning on having children, we (I) had to make some budgetary cut-backs. I may get the next iPhone since it will likely support AT&T's 4G network and will have an 8MB camera. I also heard a rumor that they may make an iPhone Nano that removes the home key and shortens the overall phone. It sounds pretty neat.
