Resolution Problems....mate....
« on: April 24, 2008, 01:22:33 PM »
Righto, so my computer shit a brick and had a driver problem which I managed to fix by reinstalling my video card drivers.
The only problem is that now my resolution isn't the same as it was before and makes everything (especially these forums) look fucked up. There are only a certain amount of options and because I have a 22 inch WTFPWNBBQ Monitor, the resolution needs to be a little bit special. 1680 by 1050 doesn't work as well as I had hoped so if any of you fuckers know how to manually change the resolution to something different, I would be much obliged.

Things such as web pages are not going to fill the screen perfectly if that is what you are getting at.  There will be spaces on either side as the web pages were not designed for widescreens.  You can change your resolution to whatever you want.  But everything will be distorted and out of whack if you dont use the LCD's native resolution.  LCD's have a FIXED amount of pixels....thus a native resolution.  CRT's do not, so you can mess with the resolution all you want and even though things may not end up square, text and the such will look fine.  Not so on LCD's....you will start seeing pixelation and text will be difficult to read.  Anyhoo, my 2 cents.

Thanks Ghosty, however my computer decided to shit a brick again. Whenever I start up my computer without going into safe mode, it crashes and I get "No Signal" on my monitor and the computer doesn't work. Because of this, I will most likely not be around for a few days while I search the internet for a solution, get pissed off and take the computer to a professional.

hmm, sounds like a possible bad driver if it works in safe mode.  Installed or download anything lately?

ps. I would try System Restore.  This might work for you.  It has worked for many people in the past.  Just go to Start>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Yeah, it is a driver problem and system restores don't seem to work which is very odd. I'm looking for a forceware driver that doesn't fuck me over right now...
