Memory Failure? And CoD4 on high?
« on: July 29, 2008, 09:07:50 AM »
HARDWARE FAILURE
EPIC PHAILNAX
MEMORY PARITY (Parody :D, someone be mockin mah memorys.)

Well i recently have gotten a blue screen (twice actually) pointing me towards my RAM. When tested they are fine so theres a good chance the slots dusty. Its what most of the forums say i guess...

Anyways, Can anyone here actually run CoD4 on high?
I bet you need vista and you need to utilized Direct X 10. :P
Like Crysis on Very High.

Oh and I seem to have a problem rendering things. When stuck in a situation where foliage pops up out of my asshole, I drop down to 40-30 fps.

My processor is an early dual core, it might have something to do with it. I dunno, the comp was made in 2006 and the CPU Speed is 3.0GHz and dual core.

i would say a majority of us here run the game on the highest settings across the board....a lot of us have 22'' screens and still get 90+ fps.  I have a 3ghz dual core as well....much like a lot of others.  The difference may be your graphics card.  What is it?  It has memory too and it could be giving you problems.  Or your GPU could just be out dated.

PS.  You should be tweaking your settings DOWN until you get above 60 fps.  Playing a first person shooter below 60fps=nubzorz.

Is that why I suck so bad? Outdoors map usually run at about 45. Staring at the sky will get me 125 (max). And indoors will get 70ish and above.

PS I run on loooooooooowwwwww settings. Yea fuck that shiny deagle.

there is no such thing as a 4.8 ghz dual core.  you are probably mis-lead.  You have 2 cores running at 2.4ghz each.  nice try.  On a side note, toms hardware just broke the overclocking world record...think they hit 5.1ghz on a quadcore.  by your math, they hit 20.4ghz.  haha

I run an average of 90 fps.
but at times i drop to 30-50 for unknown reasons.
My video card is the 8800 GTS 640 MB made by EVGA.

It just hits lows sometimes.
I just dont support high?
Its settings are on normal, I dont know what high is supposed to look like but CoD looks pretty nice. and I barely see any fps drop that my eyes could detect.

Because you have the 8800 GTS 640 running in an XP non DX10 environment, you should be getting an average of 75-100 fps, which you are.  The cause of the rendering problems are probably from your video card overheating or going bad.  Uninstalling the video drivers and reinstalling the newest ones might fix it too.

As far as you getting the memory parity error messages, that is not necessarily the same as your CoD4 problems but could be another sign that your graphics card is dying.  That error message just means that hardware somewhere is malfunctioning.  I would suggest taking all memory and cards out of their slots and using compressed air to blow out the slots, then seating them back in their slots firmly.  What were you doing when the blue screens occurred?

idk wtf to do with any of this crap... i got a new pc and the top card at the time and never see past about 65 fps at a good moment. avg fps is 30.  the nature of the hardware/software makes it impossible to establish a baseline or consistent recommended setting statements that work across the board.   you would think with a cpu like i have and the 8800 GTS card i should be kickin it full ass with about 100fps, but sadly, no . not happening.

Ive taken out the RAM and dusted with compressed air,
Itd be supprising if its dieing, I got it around the holiday season, maybe early jan.
It hasnt happened of late but it happened once on WoW and once on CoD4.
