Since some of you are pros at this I will ask you guys before I have to head off and try anything insane.
I am looking to build a decent computer for gaming, and some of the questions I have are pretty basic:

#1. What exactly do I need in total, I understand the CPU, Case, Motherboard, Video Card, PSU and the Hard Drive. Am I missing anything else important?

#2. How do things stack up. For example I see http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 which is Core 2 Duo 3GHz and http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017 Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz. However which one was better for gaming? Is there any type of motherboard I should be looking at?

#3. Video Cards. I understand 9800 is what I want, however GT or GTX, and what am I basing my decision on? The core clock, stream processors, memory clock? Or is there other things I am looking for.

If there is anything else I should know please toss me a response. I do not mind being linked to other sights that explain it all, I am just trying to save myself the most money, w/o ending up with a PoS.

None atm, but I can get one cheap through student computer store (unfortunatly that is the only thing...)

i do recommend ibuypower as well if you want to go that route.  use my build as a guideline.  ask me questions before you buy.
