Das:
idk why u dont like 'em anymore, but i could take a 'loaded' guess.... but, this album's content (that they have shared to date) sound a whole lot to me like an extension of Master Of Puppets. I recall reading at the start of this record that they went back to their regular routine for writing (riffing, assembly, creation) instead of that shit idea of "lets bring in a boom-box, no songs, make shit up, and tape it - with no production".

Visit missionmetallica.com - there are 2 other videos there that have a little more "new music" content.

Sat:
The black album was good but a major change, shifted way over and i think alot of ppl couldn't handle the growth. And for the record, St.Anger is the ONLY metallica record I actually did not like. Not for the music so much but the production was total shit. However, the better version of StAnger (actually sounds a little better) is the DVD version that comes with it. It was the entire record recorded in rehersal w/Rob on bass instead of Bob Rock.  But having said all that, i really only care for Some Kind Of Monster on that album.

And of course, Tool mentions me by name.  Post that tune again, Rash.

The music video is so badass. It's like an experimental film.

i think that all musicians at that level have tudes and all kinds of personality defects, but i think at large, people missed the message Lars was "trying" to deliver. His antics and bs blured his intent.

I don't think that they were whining so much about any real loss to them... hey, they are metallica, richest metal band or some shit.

I truly think he was trying to make a statement for the little guys... the local bands i see in clubs trying to get started, or the small bands that get lucky enough to go on tour with someone popular. i think the point was that by stealing tunes, those bands never get a fair chance to make ends meet. I've worked, lived and spent lots of time with musicians like that. They try to sell merch at the shows every nite to make cash for the road: food, gas, etc. If ppl copy the discs they are selling, then it's a loss to them. They get paid like next to nothing. there are like 6 bands on the bill, and ticket price is only $20. What kind of slice do the supporting acts get? not much.

and as far as metallica "selling out", i find that silly. Sold out? how? by expanding their musical abilities and dynamics of their songwriting and sound? I love Jason Newstead's comment on that in "year and a half of metallica".  and what does that mean anyway. Sounds like silly slang language..

bands change sometimes... and not all the fans are going to dig the direction they go. Another case and point for that (for me anyway) is a german band called Die Happy. Their first major label release "Supersonic Speed" was bad ass! heavy, musical... just great.. but with each album, they expanded, changed and mutated. They are truely a great band. Getting better with every release, etc. But for me, personally, i've never enjoyed the albums after the first as much. Just not the same thing... but to me, that is not a sell out, just change. Seems to me if an artist makes changes a fan doesn't like, it makes an easy way to complain about their disappointment to say that.

but i don't care ... metallica thru Justice was 100% good to me... Black Album had a couple of songs that i can skip, and Load/Re:Load a few more, St Anger is shit (only due to production - i think), but overall, i still dig 'em... and in my book, this sounds alot like "older metallica" and can foresee some good tunes on this next one... will make me groove for sure!

joy to all!

I mentioned Tool because they are in fact similar to Metallica. Obviously, both bands are metal bands, though Tool is more progressive metal while Metallica is just more straight up metal. Secondly, as I mentioned before, both bands structure their songs in a less traditional way. When listening to their songs you never know what's coming next as opposed to the usual intro, verse, chorus, repeat, etc.

Also, as far Metallica "selling out", I could say so. They did make a transition from having a hardcore fanbase to non-metalheads singing along to Nothing Else Matters. That's where most of their 80s fans would say they started fucking up. Then, of course, they testify against Napster alongside N'Sync. Goes to show you how greedy they are.
