That's pretty much what happened to me... except the stoner and broke part =D

I played from about 8 with my father who was a scratch golfer, heck I don't think I've ever seen him even hit 80.
I played all the way up to high school with a membership at a local country club where I rode my bike to and from the course every couple days.
I stopped playing (cold turkey mind you) when I went into the service and I started playing again within the past 3 or so years and don't know why.
